Opel, like Holden is a GM Owned subsidy. It is based in Germany
and is resposible for many of Holdens cars (Astra,
Vectra, and Calibra, currently
all without name change. Opel also sell the Frontera but this is based on what
was orginally a Isuzu (also GM Owned))
In 1999 Opel will be 100 years old.
Vauxhall is also a GM owned subsidy, and also like Holden bases
many of its models on Opel designs, as well as Chevolet. They are based in England.
Both Vauxhall and Opel have very long histories, and I may
go into them, when i have something that is complete.
"Vauxhalls were sold by GMH both pre and post war. Pre war
models used a variety of locally built and imported bodies. As the locally built
Holden became established from 1948 on, the Vauxhall became a less prominent
part of the GMH range. Usually more expensive than the equivalent Holden,
and sometimes a year or two ahead of Holden in styling. By 1968 the make
was gone from Australian showrooms. The last Vauxhall influence was in
the early 1300cc Holden Torana, based on the Vauxhall Viva. "
GMH have sold Vauxhall cars in Australia, the Viva
(HB Torana) being the one that I know of.

The Vauxhall Viceroy sat between two models in the Vauxhall range,
the Royale Saloon and the Carlton. The Opel equivalent was the Opel
Rekord which was also available in the UK. The Viceroy was only available
with a carburreted 2.5 litre engine. This is a 1982 Model. This car
unlike the Australian Commodore of the Era (vb vc vh) has Independant
Rear Suspension

Holdens basis for the VN. The grill is very similiar to that used
on the local VQ Statesmans, it was also to used on the Calais at one
stage but they instead opted for the current grill according to a
VN History book I have.
