Number Built: 135,705
Engines:
These were the Holden Black engines.
Holden Black 3.3L straight six
Induction: carburetor Valvetrain: overhead valves, 2 valves / cylinder
Max Power: 86kW@4200 rpm Max Torque: 232 Nm@2600 rpm
Holden Black 3.3L EFI straight six
Induction: EFI Valvetrain: overhead valves, 2 valves / cylinder Max
Power: 109kW Max Torque: 266Nm
Holden Black 5.0L (4.9L after June 1985) V8
Induction: carburetor Valvetrain: overhead valves, 2 valves / cylinder
MaxPower: 117kW
The L31 5.0L V8 was replaced by the LV2 4.9L in June 1985. This was to help Commodore in the Group A racing, because it could shed 75kg of weight by now being under 5.0 L. The LV2 is still referred to being 5.0L in most places. Holden quotes the same power figures for both engines. (editor's note: i've read elsewhere the size was destroked due the Group A rules changing to make over 5 litres and under 5 litres different catagories)

Induction for Black VK Motors
202 Black EST
The 6cyl E.S.T (Electronic Spark Timing) has a 2 barrel variajet carburetta, this system utilizes a distributor without points (no electronic components, unlike vh standard)<with exception of rotor button>, the EST utilizes a crank sensor instead, with a computer inside the cabin.
The 6cyl E.S.T. uses a motor mounted fuel pump, and a Air pump(above alternator) wich pumps cold air into the exhaust chamber (most likely to cool down overheating heads, a common problem with vc-vh blue motors)
202 Black EFI
The fuel injected six has a fully electronic distributor, wich takes care of spark, however the injectors are controlled by a fuel injection computer.
The 202 EFI has an electronic fuel pump, which actually turns itself off when it has sufficent presure (for miliseconds at a time). These cars also use clutch fans to improve engine cooling (also use less motor power)
V8 308 & 304
These motors have electronic distributors standard like vh (red motors use points distributors) they have a 4 barrell Quadrajet Carburetta.

Transmissions:
4-speed manual: M21
5-speed manual: Borg Warner M76 (on 3.3L only)
3-speed automatic: Trimatic
There are 2 types of 4 speeds. One is made in the philopenes, and the other is Aussie made M21, or M20 (diffrent bits & gears for v8)
Suspension:
Front: Mac Pherson struts, stabilizer bar Rear: Live axle
Steering:
Type: Rack & pinion, power assistance optional
Brakes:
Front: Discs Rear: Drum, discs for the V8
Most commodores have drum rear except, v8 and efi Calais models which have disc rear.(for about $200 u can have it changed, parts $)
V8 cars have a heavy duty brake sytem, fatter brake booster (brake pump), better ventilated discs.oh and these v8's have a Sailsbury (big diff) they are often Limited slip diffs. which is good for burnouts. :)
Acceleration:
SL 3.3L (carby): 0 - 100 km/h = 11.2 secs; 400m = 17.7 secs
Diff:
84 model use Salisbury diffs (brand) they have universal tailshaft attachment and usually 3.08 ratio (for auto's) (GU4 on compliance plate)
The 5 speeds (Borg Warner make) use a 3.45 ratio diff (better acceleration)
Original 5spd's have Borg Warner difs fitted
85 model Commodores have Borg Warner diffs standard, most are 3.23 ratio (they have flat attachment) gu5 on compliance plate)
